The lion is the largest cat in Africa and is a formidable predator. They are a social cat and live in prides and living in large groups they can take down almost every animal in the African savannah. The lion prefers to live in open woodlands and thick bush and tall grassy areas. The lion is very adaptable and can live in a wide variety of habitats. The only places lions wont go are rain forests and desert interiors. While lions drink water regularly when it is available, they can survive by getting their moisture requirements from their prey or from tsama melons. This allows them to survive in very dry climates. Threats to a lion Lions are generally considered a problem with those who live near lions because they are afraid of lions killing them and their livestock. Their scavenging behavior makes them highly vulnerable to poisoned carcasses put out to eliminate predators. Where the wild prey is migratory, lions will predate on captive stock during the lean season, thus making the nuisance animals and easy targets for people to get rid of.

Shall I go there? or shall I seek
Another clime, another sky--
Where tongues familiar music speak
In accents dear to memory?
